This page of Field Notes is about access — and why an RV has given me more time on the water than a fleet of boats ever could.
As a multi-species fly fisherman in Central Texas, I’m constantly bouncing between redfish on the coast, trout in the mountains, and bass and white bass closer to home. Owning the “right” boat for each fishery gets expensive fast. What I’ve learned is that mobility matters more than ownership.
The RV gets me closer to rivers, lakes, and the coast. It lets me stay cheap, fish first light and last light, and use the savings on guides who already have the right boat and the right knowledge for the job.
Just a few thoughts from the driveway before heading back out.
