This question was asked in my Instagram stories and it was something I had never thought of but is a great question. Do I use a heat protectant when setting my hair under the dryer.
Before I answer let’s talk about 2 types of heat, direct and indirect
Direct heat is hair styling that involves heat directly touching or coming in contact with the hair.
Flat-ironing
Blow dryer without a diffuser
Curling iron
Hot comb
Curling Wand
Indirect Heat means the heat does not directly touch the hair.
Hooded dryers
Blow dryer with diffuser
Since I dry with a hooded hair dryer and sometime a blow dryer with diffuser attachment for my wash and gos which are both indirect heat sources, I don’t use a heat protect.
When I style with direct heat, I will use a heat protectant and some other things before to protect my curls from the direct heat!
Do you use heat protectant, if so when and why? Comment below.
