Alice Sheppard and Kinetic Light Dance

Описание: Disability, race and performance art. Alice sheppard's work serves as an site of resistance and rejection of the 'supercrip' narrative. 

This video includes as follows: 
1. The first clip is a video of Alice Sheppard, a Black multiracial disabled dancer who is using a wheelchair to move about the space. She is often in contact moving with a fellow disabled dancer with red hair. This work, "Full of Words" is choreographed by Marc Brew and performed by the dancers of Axis Dance Company. 

Additionally, this video is layered with a clip from Alice Sheppard's work with Kinetic Light, "DESCENT", where two wheelchair using dancers are rolling on a stage with raised ramps as a part of the landscape of the stage.

Also, the audio in this section is Alice Sheppard speaking on disability arts from a performance and conversation with Emory University.

2. The second video clip is a video in which includes Alice Sheppard and disabled dancer Laurel Lawson. They both speak on disability arts and the impact of disabled representation in performance and media. This section also includes clips of the two dancers dancing together in wheelchairs with a layered video clips from Alice Sheppard's work, "Wired" with Kinetic Light dance. In the second half of the video, another layered video is featured. This video consists of behind the scenes footage of the filming of "Wired" by Kinetic Light.

3. The last section includes a solo performance from Alice Sheppard entitled "Doors", this performance is located in a dance studio setting. Alice is moving about the space in her wheelchair utilizing two canes in each hand to shape new movement patterns and styles.

The audio in this section is from a KQED video featuring disabled artists from Kinetic Light to discuss their work in the intersections of disability, race and performance. The audio features text from Alice Sheppard, Laurel Lawson and Jerron Herman.
