"We were never meant to notice, we were never supposed to be having public meetings about these trade deals; it was all meant to be a secret. That's why they've portrayed it as a trade deal, because trade is a good thing, right? You wouldn't think that Intellectual Property rights to our own private data, environmental standards, labour regulations, public services.. I mean, why would these be in a trade agreement, trade's about the economy, right? I mean it's not about all these other things, so by calling it a trade agreement it very much cloaked what was going on. And of course it helped that all of these negotiations were happening in secret, because that made it much harder for the public to find what was going on."
