Peter Yorke ( December 4, 1902 - February 2, 1966 ) was a British composer, conductor, organist and pianist .
In 1946 he formed his famous Concert Orchestra which included saxophonist Freddy Gardner among its talented players.
He was a very prolific composer and his works were published by leading music publishers such as Chappells, Francis Day & Hunter, Bosworth, Harmonic, Conroy, Paxton and Josef Weinberger.
His composition “Sapphires and Sables” is one of his best remembered works, written in 1947.
Peter Yorke recorded it with his Concert Orchestra for release to the record buying public on the Columbia label (DB 2340), but this is the version from the Chappell library with Charles Williams conducting the Queen's Hall Light Orchestra (C.281).
