GMC Srinagar Organizes CME on Antibiotic Stewardship
SRINAGAR, October 18: The Department of Anaesthesiology, Critical Care, Pain, and Palliative Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, under the leadership of Professor Dr. Hina Bashir, Head of the Department, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on Antibiotic Stewardship.
The event brought together distinguished faculty from across the valley to discuss strategies for the effective use of antibiotics. On this occasion, GMC Srinagar also inaugurated its Hospital Infection Control Committee, aimed at reducing and managing hospital-acquired infections within GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals.
The committee comprises key members, including the Principal of GMC Srinagar, the Heads of the Departments of Microbiology, Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Pharmacology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery, Medicine, Orthopaedics, and the Medical Superintendent of SMHS Hospital, among others.
Prof. Iffat Hassan, Principal and Dean of GMC Srinagar, stressed the importance of judicious antibiotic use, stating that the institution has consistently worked to prevent antibiotic resistance in the region. Prof. Dr. Hina Bashir also underscored the urgency of addressing antibiotic misuse, warning of the life-threatening risks posed by resistant bacterial infections.
The CME witnessed active participation from several Heads of Departments, including Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Jan, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Saleem Mir, Prof. Samina Farhat Hakak, Prof. Asif Nazir, Prof. Dr. Syed Masuma Rizvi, and other delegates from hospitals across the valley.
