Wadi Bani Habib is the ruined ghost village that has become a popular tourist destination in Oman. An easy walking path leads down 200 steps from the small parking area to the wadi bottom, across the irrigation channel that keeps the orchards fertile, and up to a cluster of slowly decaying mud buildings on the other side. The whole area is picturesque with an air of nostalgia over it.

Wadi Bani Habib is an abandoned village located at an altitude of 2,000 meters in the Jebel Akhdar mountains of Oman. This village, like many other in Oman, was abandoned in the 1980's when there was a systematic move from the old and traditional to the modern. Today, the village lie in ruins and is a popular tourist site near Nizwa.
Wadi Bani Habib had around 700 inhabitants, and was built entirely of mud and stones on the sloping mountain side with the wadi below, where fruit trees still grow. The terrain made road constructions to the village impossible and there was no electricity or tap water in the houses either. Wadi Bani Habib is a beautiful ghost village that will set your mind in motion!
