And so I did some research on the net, and found out that my digitizer may be the culprit. Instead of paying $3k+labor costs for the ENTIRE unit or $300 for an entire display panel, I opted to just buy a digitizer for $50 instead. Be sure to buy it from a reputable seller from within the US as I've read stories of digitizers that have yellowing effect and strange glaring.

In this video, I will show you how to replace this digitizer and get your display unit to function again. To remove the unit from your car's dash, you'll need a plastic prying tool and a 10mm socket wrench with an extender. All in all, it took me about 4 hours to get this done because I was being very cautious. But I think if I had to do it again, I can get it down within 2 hours.
