It is a national level exam for engineers that has international level reach. Engineering students get two options through the exam:-

1. Masters and PhDs - You can apply in national colleges like IITs, NITs, DTU, IPU, and get the fellowship in many of these colleges. GATE provides you with a chance to get admission in International Colleges as well such as

National University, Singapore
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Technical University in Munich
RWTH Aachen in Germany.

2. Government Jobs - Candidates can apply for various PSU (Public Sector Undertakings) jobs. Such as Scientists at DRDO, CDS, etc.

For these purposes, you first have to apply at COAP(Common Offer Acceptance Portal) and then apply at various institutions.

Tips:

1. Attempt all the numerical questions as they get 0 negative marks, making them a must to try, even if you don't know the answer.

2. Solve question papers and sample papers and note down the type of questions that repeat or have the most chance of coming in your next exam.

3. Don't just focus on the question, sometimes you will find that only one of the answers seems to be relevant regarding the question. So, don't skip the question without considering all the answers first.

4. Matching problems: Matching even one pair might become your answer. So, don't try to match all the pairs before getting to the options. Keep on checking the options with your matched pair.
