John Grant Jr. describes the history of the Cherokee. He tells stories about the Cherokee trade with moccasins and trade shirts. John also tells the story of where the saying "rule of thumb" came from and relates to Cherokee history. He also shares Cherokee culture and how women are treated and revered in their community. John also illustrates and describes Cherokee regalia and the purpose of side pouches in their outfits.

Furthermore John tells the history of America before it became the United States and how King George sent his soldiers to the Americas to kill native Americans. The indigenous populations had a war club as a part of their outerwear. John has an audience member demonstrate how the club was used in Cherokee and native warfare throughout the Americas.

John Grant Jr. is a composer, musician, dancer, and native storyteller of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. John Grant Jr. is also a cultural ambassador for the Cherokee Nation and has access to indigenous artifacts at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

The Cherokee Bonfire is a free evening educational summer program that teaches visitors about the indigenous people that live in the surrounding area. At the end of the session children of all ages can roast marsh mellows in the bonfire while they watch the sunset near the Ocanaluftee River. Next door is a serious of booths with local jewerly makers and craftsmen and women with unique handmade items for sale.
