London is set to receive £2.4 million in support for victims and survivors of child sexual exploitation, with funding aimed at expanding counselling and providing new independent sexual violence advocates. This comes as the Metropolitan Police re-examines 9,000 historic cases from the past 15 years, including intrafamilial, peer-on-peer, institutional abuse, and grooming gang offences, following investigations highlighting failures in police responses.
Mayor Sadiq Khan emphasised his commitment to justice and safeguarding children, while critics, including London Assembly leader Susan Hall, questioned the adequacy of the funding.
The Met has strengthened specialist teams, officer training, and investigative approaches, resulting in a significant increase in cases solved, and officials stress that the new funding will bolster therapeutic and advocacy support for survivors.
