Sony Metal XR cassette tape . Bias - 70 micro seconds EQ.

Wish I'd bought more of these Sony XR metal tapes at the time , I've seen the prices for them now , they were around £6-00 each when I got mine new.

Don't bother getting them if your recorder doesn't use the metal bias and EQ function which only came along in the 1990s.

Sony fitted it in all their HX Dolby Pro. models .

When the system and special tapes are added together you get a greater dynamic range.

I took the deck out regarding the bulb failure , but it's as Sony put it together . If I start dismantling it to get to the bulb I may disturb some part . I've never touched anything apart from the belts and pinch roller and a light lubrication of key parts so I can live without a bulb being alight. The heads still have the seals on the screws , I will never get the alignment any better than how Sony set it up on expensive azimuth machines in the factory .

HiFi is a means to an end not an obsession to me anyway , I want to enjoy the music not the equipment.
If you ever go into a professional studio things are done differently from HiFi set ups anyway.
Hifi is a roaring way of making money by convincing someone that what they've just bought is better than what they've used before. Don't get me wrong you can make improvements but you reach a point eventually where you spend a disproportionate amount of cash on infinitely small gains. Do you not think they couldn't make an amp 50 years that's sounds as good as a new one today or possibly better ?.

You'll find if you ask anyone with any HiFi sense that they want to listen to the music , not the equipment it's playing through.

I won't lose sleep knowing I have a bulb that's gone out .
