This is an extract from a conversation between Michel Onfray and Jacques-Alain Miller, which was published in issue 36 of Philosophie Magazine, January 2010. In it, Jacques-Alain Miller responds to remarks made by Michel Onfray on the sexual politics of Freud's work.
In his response, Jacques-Alain Miller indicates that there is a kind of 'sexual equality' in Lacan's teaching, insofar as each 'speaking being' must invent their own necessarily symptomatic and ultimately singular response to the problem of human sexuality. And as he goes on to explain, this singularity, which one discovers in psychoanalysis, is precisely what Lacan calls: sinthome.
