Unnatural Selection

You have control of a lab where you breed 'theroids', huge creatures that were to be a food supply for the world, but one of the scientists STOLE SOME and TOOK OVER ISLANDS and now you have to STOP HER! To do this, you breed your own theroids and send them to the islands to dispose of her creatures.
There's a lot of tactics one can use. Making fight-happy theroids will work, but so will making creatures that just want to spread the love. And by love I mean STIs. Or just love. Both help.

There are four theroids, each with their own colors. Slugs are blue and have tons of stamina, Hulks are green and extremely strong, Beasts are white and seem to have very high stats across the board, and Zips are orange and very fast. Fancy that. The special Beast theroid appears on island five and can be bred in your lab under rather specific stat conditions, but I've never successfully bred them outside of the experimental lab. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and if I didn't always crank food way up at first to get a ton of theroids, I'd probably have something other than Zips in all my files. Virus infected Zips, thanks to high mutation. Great fun.

Unnatural Selection is a bit of a slog, but there's some interesting stuff in it. The sheer variety of tools means you can pretty much customize up whatever kind of theroid you want, and the closeups of the theroids are really neat. I'm curious if Maxis used physical models at any point.Too bad the Beast theroid level is an absolute brick wall of difficulty for me. Never been past it!
