Q: The interaction part of a guitar solo and a bass solo in Honkai was also impressive.

Kanami: I added the bass solo later. The song was put in “Progress from the present”, so we thought it would be better to do something new, and we were like “How about adding a bass solo?” and wrote it so. It was a riff-based song, but I wrote its melody with the current Band-Maid feel. So it’s more like “Progress”, but I hope it will be loved by those who like “Return to the roots” too.

I've compiled my 66 favorite solos performed by the incredible Kanami Tōno of Band-Maid. Why 66? Because 65 wasn't enough. Kanami is my favorite musician of all time. I love her guitar style, but her musical mind is just stunning.

Take my rankings with a grain of salt. I've sorted them in roughly the order of my favorites, but I didn't overthink it or spend too much time ordering them. The solos in the top 10 or so are my absolute favorites, but I love them all. I'm sure I've left some great solos out. I didn't spend a great deal of time selecting the songs. I picked the songs I knew off the top of my head had great solos. I have generally stuck with the original versions of the solos rather than use extended live variations where possible. I have also excluded instrumentals for this list. The list does not include the unreleased songs from the new album Epic Narratives, which I'm sure will contain some Epic Solos.

My definition of solo is relatively loose. Some are more lead guitar features than solos, but I love them just the same. For songs with more than one featured solo, I have grouped them together in the rankings because I thought it would have better continuity. The rest of the band elevate these moments greatly, so I've tried to maintain the parts surrounding the solos that make it great, where possible. Support Band-Maid and the great work they do!
