ಭೂಇಕೋಟ್’ ಅಂದರೆ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ ಕೋಟೆ ಅರ್ಥ.
ಬಹುತೇಕ ಕೋಟೆಗಳು ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಇದು ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಈ ಕೋಟೆ 14ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಮಣಿ ಸುಲ್ತಾನರಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ನಂತರ ಅದನ್ನು ಆದಿಲ್ ಶಾಹಿ, ಮೊಘಲ್, ಮತ್ತು ಮರಾಠರು ಆಳಿದರು. ಅನೇಕರಾಜರ ಕಾಲ ಚರಿತ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಈ ಕೋಟೆ ಕಂಡಿದೆ.

The name Bhuikot means ‘Fort built on the ground’. Unlike other forts built on hills, this one is constructed on flat land.
It was originally built in the 14th century during the Bahmani Sultanate period. Later, it came under the Adil Shahi rulers, the Mughals, and finally the Marathas. Many kings and armies have stayed here, which makes this fort a symbol of changing history.
