In this pottery vlog, I’m talking about my relationship with practice — working through mistakes instead of trashing every thrown piece, building muscle memory as a ceramics artist, and why repetition matters more than perfection. As a ceramics instructor, I see so many beginners get frustrated and walk away too soon… but pottery (like roller skating) takes time, awkwardness, and patience.

I also share what’s been holding me back from practicing consistently (hint: it’s not failure, it’s the time and cleanup), and why I’m trying to rebuild better studio habits and find my rhythm again.

We also have a mini clay nerd moment talking about engobe — what it is, how it changes the clay body, why I prefer it over dark brown underglaze, and how it helps create more consistent glaze results. If you’ve ever struggled with bubbling underglaze, glaze reactions, or drippy glazes, this part’s for you.
