Residents of Richmond are upset that Richmond will become like Vancouver's Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside, where homelessness and drug use is rampant. Citizens in Richmond are concerned about the future of their city. They fear Richmond will become overrun with homeless people. We hear some of the speakers at a Richmond City Council meeting. Federal Conservatives are talking tough on drugs and crime, including tougher laws against drug dealing and distribution. Federal Conservatives are also talking about better treatment for drug addiction with the aim of getting people off using drugs.

My friend Richard and I take a tour of the Downtown Eastside shortly after the Richmond consideration for a Safe Drug Consumption site to be located at Richmond General Hospital.

Vancouver Downtown Eastside has faced many problems, including poverty, drug use, crime, homelessness, mental illness, vandalism and other problems. Since, the Pandemic, the situation has gotten worse. Recently, homeless people are living in an area where businesses are located.
Chinatown is located near the Downtown Eastside. Chinatown is having its share of problems, including buildings being vandalized, loss of local business and loss of tourism.
Recent reviews on Tripadvisor have been really negative about our city of Vancouver. People are advising tourist to avoid different areas of the city, including Chinatown.
