Описание: In 1922, Lorrin Thurston led a team of archaeologist to Honopu Valley. The archaeologist found several skulls thought to be primitive, pre-Hawaiian. The best guess is that these Menehunes were actually the Marquesans. Smaller in stature than the 2nd wave of Polynesians settlers who came from Tahiti. In the Tahitian language, the word for slave, or lower class worker is very close to today's "Menehune," giving credence to the theory that the Marquesans were subjucated and conquered by the Tahitians....and that is why Honopu Valley is also known as The Valley of The Lost Tribe. Honopu means "Conch Shell" because of the sound its Arch makes when hit by winds from the north. The Arch separates the two beaches and burial sites at the bottom of each cliff. It is believed that many of the Na Pua Alii O Kauai( Ruling Chiefs of Kauai) are located in these surrounding cliffs. No boats or landing crafts are allowed. One must swim to get here.
