Located along the spectacular coastal cliffs of South Coogee, the new staircase to the Ivo Rowe Rockpool provides safer and more reliable access to one of the area’s most secluded ocean pools.
Delivered for Randwick City Council, the project replaces an aging concrete and rocky pathway with a purpose-built staircase designed to withstand the harsh coastal environment. Constructed using fibre-reinforced polymer mini-mesh and stainless steel, the new structure improves durability while helping visitors navigate the steep cliffside approach with greater confidence.
The staircase connects the coastal walkway to the small, natural rock pool below — one of the smallest ocean pools along the coastline and a quiet spot for locals and visitors to cool off or take in the ocean views. By improving safety and accessibility, the project ensures this hidden coastal gem remains accessible while respecting the rugged character of the surrounding landscape.
