Managing the health of an ageing population in Poland [Euronews]

Описание: Poland’s population is ageing fast. Forecasts indicate that in less than forty years there will be one pensioner for every working person in Poland. In this episode of Smart Care, Euronews’ Producer Jeremy Wilks, travels to Poland to meet Professor Boleslaw Samolinski who is creating a coalition of experts in medicine, economics and government healthcare to manage this demographic change. Applying the changes needed in Poland will be challenge, and one in which the voice of the patient has to be heard. Jeremy also hears from Rheumatologist Professor Brygida Kwiatkowska and Physiotherapist Ernest Wiśniewski who are working on ways to keep people with chronic conditions like arthritis in the labour market as long as possible. He also meets with Monika Zientek, who has rheumatoid arthritis. She says: “As a patient, I would like there to be dialogue between the patients associations and the organisations that decide on our treatments. Only with dialogue and collaboration are we able to overcome the barriers that arise”.
