Join me as I pedal up the hills of Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, California, stopping not once, twice, but three times in an attempt to paint something using my new bike easel setup.
I got the bike easel idea from my friend, Glenn, while adding a few of my own adjustments and gizmos.
Without spoiling the ending I will just say: that was entirely based on user error and not the fault of any of the gear I'm about to list! It's just one of the many drawbacks of carrying around too much camera gear; Things bump into other things....
But you don't have to worry about that. If you'd like to try the bike easel on your own here is my recommended list:
Kickstand or Click-Stand (http://www.click-stand.com/) Some people have kickstands, but I prefer to use a light collapsible stand I can easily stash in my bag. The brand I use is Click-Stand and while it seems a little precarious, it's actually rated to hold up a fully loaded touring bike.
You'll need some way of tying down your brakes so the bike doesn't move. I use two elastic bands that I keep around my handlebars and pull over the brakes to engage and lock them (mine came with the Click-Stand).
Voile Strap (https://www.voile.com/voile-straps.html) You'll also want to prevent the steering column from turning and tipping the whole thing over. I use a 15" Voile strap but you may need to go longer depending on your tire size and distance between the wheel and down tube.
The cigar box pochade (my own diy custom job) has a long tripod plate mounted underneath. There is one screw and a pin. These two points prevent the plate from turning, which does tend to happen with smaller quick release plates, especially when using heavier paint boxes.
Manfrotto 244 Micro Friction Arm (https://bhpho.to/3Am4G9s) Holding up the pochade box is a Manfrotto magic friction arm secured to my handlebars. These friction arms are incredibly strong so don't worry about them moving out of place.
And that's it! If you try this setup or have questions about it I'd love to hear from you in the comments.
I hope you'll consider leaving a Like (and please Subscribe if you're new to this channel). These videos are a true labor of love, and any encouragement goes a long way in helping me make more.

Many thanks as always to Ian and Miki for the wonderful music. You may notice the music sounds slightly different in this episode and that is because Miki had the opportunity to re-record the theme music in a studio on a grand piano. Of course I love every version, whether recorded on a proper sound stage or on a keyboard in her garage.

Thanks for watching!
