Mole Valley Farmers Relaunch Cullompton Store

Crowds flocked to the opening on Tuesday, November 27 with the queue for the hog roast extending across the store, and many customers making the most of giveaways, member discounts and food and drink tastings.
It was long-standing employee and “local celebrity” Bernard Saunders who had the important task of cutting the ribbon to declare the refurbished store officially open.
Having worked for Mole Valley Farmers for 46 years, Bernard was a familiar face to many in the crowd, who have been regulars at the Cullompton site for many years. In fact, some were customers of Mole Valley Farmers when the store was located at Willand, before moving to the Cullompton site in the nineties.
Dairy, beef and sheep farmer, Donald Arscott of Sweetlands Farm, Honiton, has remained committed to Mole Valley Farmers since the Willand store first opened in 1974. In fact, records show Donald was the last customer to be served at Willand. In recognition of his long-standing support, Bernard presented Donald with a bottle of wine.
Bernard said: “I’d like to extend my thanks to Donald and all our members. We wouldn’t be here without you.”
Donald’s late-father first became a farmer member 46 years ago. Donald said Mole Valley Farmers has continued to provide its member with a fair price for everything it sells. In fact he buys all of his livestock feed and most of his fertiliser through the business, along with farm sundries.
He said: “In the early days, all the opposition said they could match Mole Valley Farmers’ prices. And I always said; what would you be charging if Mole Valley wasn’t there? Even last week, I priced up something and it was £14.99 at Mole Valley and on the internet it was £27.50 for the exact same thing. I’ve also always found, especially with Bernard, if you have a problem, there’s always someone to help. I feel I can speak to anyone and ask anyone anything.”
Donald joined the crowds in exploring the re-vamped store. He said the re-fit was a big change and gave the store a complete new look and feel. “It’s moving with modern times and that’s what you need to do. It’s very well laid out,” he said.
The celebrations extended into the evening with late-night shopping until 9pm and an evening hog roast, mulled wine and carols by the Cullompton Choir.
Store manager Mark Brown said the 25th anniversary and re-launch event was a fantastic celebration.
“I’d like to thank all of the team who have worked tirelessly during the re-fit and to plan our 25th Anniversary event. It’s been a fantastic day. The refurbished store looks great and we hope our customers will enjoy an improved shopping experience with an even greater array of products on offer,” he said.
