Now for the main event:
This week - Drawing an orange, take 2!
This week we go over laying out your composition and using landmarks to help find your way. This makes drawing so much easier when you are trying to replicate the positioning of something. Look for things that are adjacent to the area that you are trying to draw. This will help you to find the location and document that. This is good for other things as well. Things such as finding value. Look at the thing that you are trying to establish the value of and then look at things around it. Then, look at things around THAT! Make sure your values are keyed into the appropriate scale.
When lying things out, be sure to start rough and tighten up your lines as the illustration progresses. Work on your project as a whole and at one time rather than focusing on a specific area and neglecting the rest. Your level of interest may wane over time and that will be noticeable in your overall render.
Once you have your completed drawing, it's time to seal (By-yah. If you know, you know) Once it's ready, you can give it a good spray with some workable fixative. You may need a couple of coats to really help it set. Go back in once it has dried and touch up any white that might have gotten pushed back. Once you are happy with the retouch, use your cold wax.
I start by dabbing on the cold wax on the white areas that I touched up that was not re-sealed. once you have a good coating of dabbed wax, start swirling it around. You only need a thin coat so don't go crazy here.
After you have everything covered, Let it cure for a day. Then, come back with a cotton cloth and burnish it. Just a light buffing to help knock back the matte finish of the wax.
I hope you enjoyed this video and I will see you next time.
