New, comprehensive reporting from The Wall Street Journal sheds more light on Noem’s leadership of DHS, painting a picture of an agency in chaos and a secretary often at odds and entangled with her top aide and alleged romantic partner, Corey Lewandowski — accounts a DHS spokesperson has denied.

The Journal reports DHS staff has experienced significant upheaval with Noem and Lewandowski either demoting or firing about 80 percent of Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s field leadership since joining the agency.

But the secretary and her team’s hair-trigger approach to management have extended beyond Homeland Security’s immediate staff. In one incident Lewandowski reportedly ordered that a military pilot be fired — at least temporarily — over a missing blanket!
