How to Mount Needlepoint Artwork
This video demonstrates how you Should Not attach needlepoint artwork to a backing.
Using paper, card board or any backing that that can be affected by moisture is not a good idea. Moisture from cleaning or from spills/leaks can transfer impurities into the wool yarns of needlepoint weaves possibly making cleaning ineffective.
We suggest using Plexiglas type material or plywood coated with urethane. These materials won’t transfer impurities. If the cleaning process requires water-based detergents the moisture can cause the paper backing to warp making the needlepoint seem rippled or wrinkled. Some water-based detergents may also dissolve the adhesives holding the needlepoint to the backing.
Special Note: If you chose to attach it to a piece of plywood the needlepoint can be back stapled which eliminates the need for adhesives all together :)
