Let’s also talk about training. The theme of these sessions is “the trust bank”. Animals (and humans) develop relationships built on trust- as that relationship develops, your “bank” fills up the more you foster mutual respect. Training asks the animal to trust that what you’re asking them to do isn’t going to hurt them. If you mess up, or move too fast, or ask for something painful, your funds decrease. The good thing is most instances can be corrected, but if you’re always withdrawing and never depositing eventually you’ll run out of that trust money. Billi and I have been working on my trust bank for 13years, that means she ultimately knows what we’re doing isn’t going to be that bad, and her sessions progress fairly rapidly. That’s how I can get her to enter a brand new carrier in just 2 sessions! So if you’re new to training (or your cat is) don’t get discouraged if it takes a bit more time! All pets are different, all people are different. We learn at different speeds and that’s all A-OK!
