The Gudetama Tamagotchi (ぐでたまたまごっち) from Bandai was released in December 2017. Identical to the Tamagotchi Nanos, the toy is a simplified version of the regular Tamagotchi. It is available in 2 shell designs and can be purchased as a set with silicon covers.

Gudetama is one of Sanrio’s biggest characters today. It was created for a 2013 design competition where participants were required to submit characters based on food items. The ̶l̶a̶z̶y, ̶s̶a̶d, ̶u̶n̶m̶o̶t̶i̶v̶a̶t̶e̶d egg character won the second prize.

Tamagotchi is a digital pet toy created by Aki Maita with the help of toy designer, Akihiro Yokoi. The first Tamagotchi was released in 1996 in Japan and went on to become the most iconic toy in the 1990s following an international release in 1997. To date, Bandai has sold more than 82 million Tamagotchis globally!

The original Tamagotchi characters are alien lifeforms hatched on Earth to experience what life is like here. Depending on the amount of attention it receives from their human caretakers, the cute creatures will evolve into various characters through their life cycle.

P.S. At the time of writing this description, I am still waiting for my Gudetama to turn into an egg dish. If you don’t see that part here, then I must have slept through it or had given up on waiting for another 20 years to complete this video. 😒🍳😝😴
