Описание: Here’s something a bit different today: Ocean World (1991), presented and narrated by David Attenborough.

This one is a bit of an oddball. It seems to be a kind of musical hybrid performed by the Musicians and Choir of St. Augustine’s R.C. High School, singing over underwater documentary footage, with Attenborough providing bits of narration here and there between the different acts.

There isn’t much information about it online. I had seen it listed in Attenborough’s filmography before, but every video or clip I found seemed to have no trace of him at all, which left me puzzled about what it actually was. That is, until I randomly came across this official VHS tape, presented by the WWF (the foundation, not the old wrestling federation, lol).

The tape seems quite rare. It’s the first time I have ever seen it come up for auction, so of course I had to buy it (and pay way too much for shipping) just so I could transfer it with VHS-Decode and preserve it.

'Ocean World' is a musical about the plight of the world's oceans. It tells the story of the birth of a humpback whale in the tropical seas, and the hazardous journey that the mother and calf make to reach their feeding grounde in the North Pacific, It is a moving, emotional tale, with a powerful climax, when the whale calf is endangered by pollution and the overfishing of the oceans.

Vividly illustrated by spectacular wildlife and documentary images, 'Ocean World' was originally commissioned by WWF (UK) and forms part of their educational materials for teachers. It was written and composed by two Lancashire school teachers, Anne Conlon and Peter Rose.
