Crowds remained at the historic site overnight before cheering as sunlight appeared over the ancient stone circle. Visitors celebrated by dancing, playing music and taking part in traditions linked to the annual event. Attendees also received rare access to approach and touch the monument, which is normally restricted during regular visiting hours.

Stonehenge is famous for its connection with the movement of the sun and remains one of the world's most recognisable prehistoric landmarks. Archaeologists estimate the monument was built between 3000 BC and 2000 BC.
