Описание: Let’s understand the Scapula in a very simple way.
Scapula is a flat, triangular bone present on the back of the chest wall, roughly between the second and the seventh ribs. Together with the clavicle, it forms the shoulder girdle.
The scapula mainly has 2 surfaces, 3 borders, and 3 angles.
On the anterior side we have the costal surface, which is concave and forms the subscapular fossa for the subscapularis muscle.
The posterior surface shows a prominent spine which divides the bone into a smaller supraspinous fossa above and a larger infraspinous fossa below. These accommodate supraspinatus and infraspinatus respectively.
Now borders. The medial border lies next to the vertebral column, the lateral border is thick and near the axilla, and the superior border contains the suprascapular notch.
Angles are easy—superior, inferior and lateral. The lateral angle forms the glenoid cavity which articulates with the head of the humerus to form the shoulder joint.
Important processes include the acromion, which articulates with the clavicle, and the coracoid process which gives attachment to several muscles.
So in short, the scapula acts as a stable but mobile platform for upper limb movements and provides wide areas for muscle attachment. That’s why understanding scapula is very important in clinical anatomy and shoulder injuries.”
