Today, we are diving into a topic that plagues so many survivors of toxic relationships. It is perhaps one of the most painful aspects of the aftermath: the haunting silence and the confusing, erratic behavior of the Narcissist after the relationship ends.

Many of you may find yourselves in a situation where you have been discarded, or perhaps subjected to a "reverse discard"—where they made you miserable enough to leave them. You are now facing the void. The Narcissist has either ghosted you completely or is implementing the savage, punitive tactic known as the silent treatment. You might have sincerely attempted to repair the relationship with the Narcissist in your life, extending olive branch after olive branch, swallowing your pride, only to be met with continued disregard, coldness, or blocked numbers.

They may have verbally asserted that you meant nothing to them, rewritten history to paint you as the villain, or used dismissive statements to shatter your reality, intentionally leaving you without any sense of closure. It leaves you spinning, lying awake at 3 AM asking yourself, "Did I really mean nothing? Was it all a lie? How can they just walk away without a backward glance after everything we shared?"

But here is the truth that changes everything, and I want you to really absorb this: It is crucial to recognize that the discard, or rejection, from a Narcissist often stems from a complex array of motives and underlying agendas. It is rarely as simple as they make it seem.

There is a pervasive myth that we need to dismantle right now. It is the myth that Narcissists are oblivious, that they are like emotional children who don’t know their own strength or the impact of their words. You might think, "Maybe they just don't realize how much they hurt me."
That is false.

Narcissists are inherently aware of the harm they inflict. This isn't an accidental bump in the hallway; it is a calculated collision. This conscious act of causing pain, despite knowing it is wrong, underscores a profound malevolence. They deliberately hurt you, fully cognizant of their actions. After this, they proceed with their lives, often actively avoiding any encounter with you not because they don't care, but because they care too much about protecting their own fragile ego.
Prominent psychologists in the field of narcissistic abuse often refer to this as the "Gap of Insecurity." The Narcissist operates from a place of deep-seated inadequacy. When they discard you, it is often because being in the presence of an authentic, genuine soul like yours has become too challenging. Your light casts a shadow on their darkness, and it deeply irritates their spirit. Consequently, they seek an escape, often in the form of a New Supply—someone who doesn't know their secrets yet.

But beyond these initial motivations—beyond the surface-level cruelty—it is vital to understand their conscious awareness.

Let’s pause here and deepen our understanding of this "awareness" by looking at the psychology of emotion. Experts frequently discuss the critical difference between a person who makes a mistake and a person who operates with a pattern of entitlement and lack of empathy.
