Day two on the High Rock Bay Trail begins at Lake Ste. Kathryn, where we wake to a fog rolling gently through the forest. The trail greets us with stunning fall colors — the trees practically swallowing the path, forming tunnels of orange and gold.
Leaving Michigan behind, we cross into Wisconsin, winding through peaceful forest service roads without seeing another traveler for miles. As the trail ends in Crandon Wisconsin, we set our sights on Boulder Lake Campground, where we meet up with our friends James and Brenda.
Boulder Lake Campground is nestled in northern Wisconsin on the edge of a 362-acre lake — the largest public campground in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. After a relaxing night at camp, we hit the road early for a long day’s drive toward Brenda’s family farm in Illinois, where we plan to camp for the night.
Arriving close to midnight, we set up camp and crash hard after the long drive. But the next morning, as we head home through Kentucky, the Jeep decides to throw a light show — gauges going crazy, warning lights flashing, and limp mode kicking in.
Maybe we should’ve just stayed out exploring…
Watch until the end to see exactly what happened!
