Massive protests have broken out in Chandpara, Gaighata, as members of the Matua community allege a conspiracy to remove their names from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Led by Sukesh Chowdhury, General Secretary of the All India Matua Mahasangha (Mamata Bala faction), protesters blocked the roads, burning tires and playing traditional Danka drums. The agitators claim that thousands of Matua voters have been disenfranchised ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections. The Mahasangha has warned of a larger state-wide movement if the "deleted" and "pending" names are not immediately restored to the final roll.
