Rua Garrett is the center of Chiado, Lisbon's intellectual hub in the 20th century. Connected by Largo do Chiado and Rua do Carmo, the opera (National Theater of São Carlos) is located around it, as well as the Teatro São Luiz and the Teatro da Trindade, the most famous bookstores in the city, as the first bookstore Bertrand, founded in 1732, the Grémio Literário do Chiado or even the centenary Café A Brasileira, where great figures of 20th century Portuguese culture have already gathered.
