The Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Nghipondoka-Hamutumwa has urged public servants and public enterprise employees in the region to uphold ethical conduct and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.
Nghipondoka-Hamutumwa made the remarks during her annual engagement with public civil servants and public enterprise employees at Eenhana.
Nghipondoka-Hamutumwa stressed the importance of treating every citizen with dignity and respect regardless of their social or economic status.
She explained that such an approach strengthens public trust and proves that effective service delivery is possible when institutions prioritise the people's needs.
The governor called on officials to recommit themselves to professionalism, accountability, empathy and a results-orientated approach in carrying out their duties.
"We are here to deliver service that makes a tangible difference in people's lives, improves access, reliability, efficiency and quality. We are not here to create obstacles or excuses but to bring government and its enterprises closer to the people through responsive coordination and effective service delivery."
She also reminded public servants about the Public Service Charter, which outlines guiding principles for their conduct.
These include professionalism and ethical behaviour, transparency and accountability, efficiency and effectiveness, courtesy and respect, accessibility of services, and responsiveness to public needs.
Nghipondoka-Hamutumwa emphasised that public enterprises, despite operating within commercial and corporate governance frameworks, are equally bound by the Public Service Charter because they exist to serve the public interest.
She urged civil servants and public enterprise employees to align their daily work with their strategic plans, annual performance plans and operational targets.
