In this episode of the Urban Debate, anchor Shreya Dhoundial will be discussing how a married woman and a mother of two children reached the Supreme Court, asking for permission to terminate her pregnancy. She is 26 weeks pregnant, and Indian law does not permit abortion after 24 weeks unless there is a grave danger to the mother or to the foetus. The mother said she was not in a mental or physical state to carry the child. The government was not in favour of this decision.
"The medical board says the foetus is 860 gm; a proper delivery is required to get the child out unless SC gives the right to foeticide. Proceedings in court became extremely emotional. The court was taken aback when the Q became about permission to commit foeticide," said lawyer Sunita Ojha. Watch In!
