Play Full Ground's founder Mai Ryuno did this participatory performance at Monterey Museum of Art on Friday, March 6, 2020 - less than a week before the California State's Shelter in Place order was placed. For the performance, Mai created a dress with LED lights collaborating with Monterey Makers, which were connected to bend sensor to be activated through her interaction with people.
Mai Ryuno is a social practice, installation, and performance artist whose artworks are concept driven, process oriented, and playful. She enjoys using mixed match mediums such as traditional printmaking, drawing, painting, and sculpture as well as non-traditional food, saltwater, rain, etc. with colors and patterns. They are often results of her interest in spontaneous ideas and acts of making and doing art with careful consideration in materials and process. She also invites the public to participate in her performances to share the experience and complete the work through collaboration. Her inspiration comes from people, places, everyday life, and environment and she cares deeply for communities and seek to find new ways to use creativity to engage them, build stronger bonds, and explore artistic practice and experience.
