William McGregor Paxton, of the Boston School of Painters, was of the younger generation from the 'Ten" group emanating from Boston. His Interiors of women in everyday life with richly furnished furnishings are a salute to the Dutch great artist Vermeer, the 17th-century master. Paxton was a strong and accurate draughtsman, his linear style was evident in his portrait work, while the soft tonal effect is seen in the domestic pictures.
