#WHO Chief scientist #SoumyaSwaminathan says there are currently four #variants of concern, the latest being the B 1.617, first described in India, but now found in about 50 countries worldwide.
She says the B1.617 is definitely more transmissible, one and a half to two times more than the original strain. She added that it's even more transmissible than the B 117, which was identified in the UK, and which had at one point become the predominant strain in India.
