In this video (and others in this series). You will witness the Rollmonica, a self‑playing harmonica introduced in the late 1920s, playing an original paper music roll from my collection.
The Rollmonica uses a perforated paper roll to control/allow access to various reeds on a harmonica as the player blows into it. Each roll is a complete arrangement encoded on paper. No electricity or amplification is needed. It’s actually quite an incredible concept, similar to 19th century organettes that used paper rolls aswell.
