Surface preparation for resinous coatings will vary by product choice. Thicker systems are generally less sensitive to preparation marks or small voids, while thin-mil systems could telegraph even the slightest cupwheel gouge. To avoid costly repairs or an unexpected re-coat being necessary, preparing the concrete canvas to a uniform condition is good insurance against disappointing final results.
The video documents a slab that’s already been diamond ground with a 30 grit to remove cure-n-seal. The joint and a few spalls have been filled with epoxy and ground flush by hand grinder. What’s left is a slab that appears smooth. To be sure all the prep marks are removed, a 70 grit diamond is run over the surface. Once this process is complete, the floor is shotblasted to de-dust it. Following this cleaning is the application of a water based epoxy primer.
