Welcome back to @AutoScholarwithMrB ! Today we are tacking a very common problem on the first generation Chevrolet Volt, the instrument cluster going black.
If your cluster goes black, you can have two problems, the board failing (somewhat rare) or the LCD panel failing (much more common.) You can replace the entire cluster with a used one but the odometer will disappear. The dealership can probably fix this with a software update and coding, but the car will run fine without it. If the LCD screen has failed, this video shows you how to disassemble the cluster and replace the screen with a donor cluster screen.
