We had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Senka Holtzer on our Instagram Unpolished Podcast. Senka is the author of a new book called Be You. She is a biochemist by training and holds a PhD in Molecular Biology. She is also a coach trainer @science2wellbeing and came to speak to us today about her research on how to identify core values and helped us to differentiate between core values and acquired values and why that’s important.
What we learned!
Core values are like a target to your authenticity and if you don’t know what your core values are, it is like trying to shoot the target in the dark.
Each of us are driven by a set of values. Some of them are our core values and represent that which is innate to use from birth and others of them are our acquired values, which we have inherited from our families, cultures or society.
Acquired values are not inherently bad, but you they offer only short burst of satisfaction, while core values allow us to experience longer lasting contentment in our lives.
Identifying core values is not as straightforward as selecting them from a list of words, we need to look and listen closely to things we think, do and say…and to who we were when we were young, to truly learn who we are at our core and what matters most to us.
