Dr. Hsu, a radiologist with ARA Diagnostic Imaging in Austin, Texas, discusses UFE - Uterine Fibroid Embolization.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths from the uterine muscle cells. With time, they grow and can cause symptoms that involve heavy menstrual bleeding, urinary cramps, pelvic pain, pelvic fullness, and discomfort in women. These symptoms can cause urinary frequency, constipation, and pain with intercourse.

Uterine fibroid embolization, or UFE, is a great non‐surgical treatment that is unknown to a lot of women. One in five women thinks that a hysterectomy is their only option. UFE treats all of the fibroids in one setting and has a very low complication rate. It’s mostly done as an outpatient and the recovery process is usually one to two weeks.
