I've done a lot, but to be honest, I'm not special.
I'm just another guy in the working class, and this is my story.
I work, I pay taxes, I pay the bills, I feed my family, I volunteer, and when I have time, I make videos on the Internet, like the one you're seeing here.
I spent the last 14 years (2012-2026) as an adult -- studying, volunteering, working, building, growing, healing, and documenting.
In 2012, I attended University of California, Irvine to study Civil Engineering.
In 2014, I started freelancing as a creative, specializing in audio and visual productions. I helped many clients reach their goals through storytelling.
Simultaneously, I built a private tutoring business teaching middle, high school, and college students and taught everything from pre-algebra to multivariable calculus.
I volunteered my time to the service of my local community, especially with youth.
I ended up with a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine. By this time, I had also completed my prerequisite courses to also pursue a career in medicine and completed observation and practice hours at a local physical therapy clinic.
I continued to grow my production business, eventually hitting six figures of annual revenue.
In 2017, I led and launched programs for non-profit organizations and educational institutions.
I started many additional for-profit projects, made terrible decisions, and many ended up being massive financial losses. These projects put me into significant debt.
So I swallowed my pride, applied for a job at a local coffee shop, while I continued to privately tutor math in the afternoons, edit videos in the evenings, and film events and weddings on the weekends to work my way back up. Whenever I had free time, I got on Postmates and Instacart to do deliveries and make some gas money.
While working at the coffee shop, I saw the opportunity in third-party delivery platforms (Doordash, Grubhub, Postmates, Uber Eats). I took nice photos, rewrote titles and descriptions for each item, and made our add-ons and subtitutions user friendly. It blew up. We ranked at the top on these apps.
I worked with a friend to import Japanese "Ceremonial" Matcha from Uji, Kyoto. We developed our own blend for foodservice application.
We developed products and built relationships with other vendors in the industry. We curated, tested, and sold pressed juice, gluten-free brownies, gluten-free dessert bars, turmeric shots, single origin chocolates, and the list of "better for you" products went on and on. I solidified a relationship with Van Leeuwen Ice Cream to serve their products in our store and started working on a collaborative affogato product.
All for $15/hr. After tips, I was making around $18/hr. I was working the shop, managing the business, and running personal errands for the investor.
Eventually, our coffee shop became profitable. I asked the owner for a salary of $48k/year because I wanted to go all-in. My manager laughed and said, "trust me, nobody gets paid that much here."
Yet the owner expected me to be on-call and be available all week, which would mean I'd have to give up tutoring and video production.
I quit. It's not possible.
In 2019, I got married. My wife and I raised three dogs.
I'm confident that social media will take off. I take a personal loan out to revamp our commercial studio.
March 9th, 2020, we opened doors and welcomed local artists to work with us.
Math 14th, 2020, my phone gets flooded with texts and calls from clients that they need to cancel our projects. Weddings and events get delayed. The COVID-19 pandemic changes the world forever.
In 2021, my wife and I moved up to Portland, OR to start a new life. Irvine, CA was no longer affordable, and we figured it would be the last chance we get to try living in a different state.
There I spent time rebuilding my confidence and begin healing my childhood and religious traumas.
My grandfather suddenly passed away in 2022. We decide to move back in 2023 because we don't know how much longer my grandmother has. I get to spend a whole year with her before she passed away in 2024. My grandparents were the one who raised me, while my parents were busy working.
Then in November 2024, my dog Theo passes away. I got him as a puppy in 2014. It's a different pain losing someone you raised.
In 2025, life felt impossible. I was just trying my best to survive and take care of my family, but it never felt enough.
I started to take care of myself. I said no more to working late into the night. No more working on the weekends. No more going the extra mile for clients or doing extra credit to feel like I was valuable.
I said "no" more often, drew boundaries with people, and when people got upset that they coud no longer take advantage of me, I walked away from those relationships and never looked back.
My life has not been easy, but many more have it harder.
I want to make the world a better place.
Join me.
