This ambitious 19-day adventure through New Caledonia, Fiji, and New Britain delivered a spectacular sweep of Pacific island birding, from iconic endemics to the rich diversity of Melanesian forests. We began in New Caledonia’s Parc des Grandes Fougères and Blue River National Park with unforgettable encounters including Kagu, Cloven-feathered Dove, and New Caledonian Imperial-Pigeon. Fiji brought an explosion of colour on Taveuni, Suva, and Namosi, featuring Golden Dove, Orange Dove, Many-colored Fruit-Dove, and rainforest honeyeaters and parrots from Colo-i-Suva to Des Voeux Peak. The finale unfolded in the volcanic wilds of New Britain, where reefs, lowland forest, and night excursions produced Bismarck Imperial-Pigeon, Nicobar Pigeon, Melanesian Megapode, Pied & Violaceous Coucals, and superb seabirds like Red-footed Booby and Tahiti Petrel. With 173 species recorded, it was a deep dive into some of the Pacific’s most distinctive bird communities.
