The topic we will talk about in this video will be the differences between traditional advertising and digital advertising. At the same time, we will touch on the advantages of digital advertising over traditional advertising. First of all, let's see what traditional advertising and digital advertising are.
Traditional advertising includes TV, magazines, newspapers, radio, brochures, outdoor advertisements, etc., before the Internet era. Digital advertising includes advertisements that we see on social media every day, ads that appear on various websites, etc.
If we look at the differences between these 2 categories of advertisements, the first is that digital advertisements are cheaper than traditional advertisements. For example, you can promote your product or service on Facebook, YouTube or another platform to a large audience with a small budget. Another advantage of digital advertising is that, unlike traditional advertising, this type of advertising is measurable. For example, when we place an advertisement on a digital platform, we can see how many sales we can make through that advertisement, or how many people view this advertisement, etc. In other words, we can measure the ROI of the advertisement we place. Here, ROI means how much profit and benefit we get from the investment. In order to understand this concept easily, let's look at such an example. Let's say that the budget for one sales advertisement is $100 and the sales profit from that advertisement is $500. In this case, the ROI is 500/100, i.e. 5. Here, while doing other types of advertisements knowing the ROI, we determine the most effective advertisements for us, taking into account the ROI of those advertisements. On the other hand, it is difficult to determine ROI in traditional advertisements, in other words, it is harder to measure traditional advertisements.
Additionally, another advantage of digital advertising is that these ads are interactive. For example, when a company posts an ad about its product on social media, potential customers can react to that ad and write comments. This is a factor that increases sales by listening to customers. On the other hand, traditional ads are not interactive. That is, the viewers passively watch the ads between the films they see on TV, they cannot express any reaction or comment.
Another nuance that makes digital advertising more attractive than traditional advertising is the availability of analytics for this type of advertising. We can explain it in simple language, let's say you want to advertise the books you are selling on Instagram, and the budget you set aside for this is $60. At this point, you might think that you shouldn't spend $60 on just one type of ad. Instead, you can create 3 types of ads and spend $20 on each, and then track which ad is more effective in analytics. Let's say these ad types are A, B and C, and you notice after a few hours that the effectiveness of the A and B ad campaigns is very low, so you stop the A and B ads and give your investment power to the C ad. Such analyzes are also an additional advantage that analytics gives us in digital advertising. In general, every digital advertising platform has its own analytics. For example, Google ads have their own analytics, Facebook ads have their own analytics, and other digital platforms have their own analytics.
