BigLift Baffin arrives in US and inches under Bayonne Bridge in NJ enroute to Maher Terminal

Описание: Late August, the Big Lift Baffin left the Cork Dockyard in Ireland and powered across the Atlantic later arriving and anchoring just outside the Verrazzano Bridge in the Gravesend Bay, NY. There it had to wait for the perfect low tide. The anchor was raised at 12:30pm Sat and the ship and crew started the journey up the Hudson River to the Kill Van Kull River where it would inch, and I do mean inch, under the Bayonne Bridge. It then turned north and about an hour later had finally reached port at the Maher Terminal. Superlative job by the Moran Ship Yard tugs guiding each step of the way.

The BigLift Baffin was carrying 3 ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes built by Liebherr Cranes. With a height of 150meters and a weight of 6,000 tonnes, these are the largest objects ever engineered/manufactured in Ireland to be shipped out of the country. It had taken months in the Cork Dockyard to ready for the Atlantic crossing. Why all the work? The goal is to transform the Maher Terminal into a net zero emissions facility by 2040. I had seen the ship show up, a few days ago, on Marine Traffic and then I had to research what it was doing here. Can't imagine how much the entire fantastic team put into all of this and hopefully they feel great after such success.
