The Jesuitenkirche Mariä Verkündigung in Mindelheim is officially the former church of a Jesuit college founded in 1618 in Bavarian Swabia, and today serves as a filial church of the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Stephen. Its Baroque nave was completely rebuilt in 1721–1722 by Jesuit architect Joseph Guldimann S.J., who raised the nave walls, installed new windows, and commissioned the rich stucco barrel-vault ceiling. Mindelheim proudly calls itself "Krippenstadt" — the Town of Nativity Scenes — and this church is the reason why. The legendary Jesuitenkrippe, begun in 1618, features approximately 80 historic dressed wooden figures installed in the choir every Christmas season.
